Jordan 5 OG

This sleek Jordan 5 OG is a faithful rendering of the time-honoured Black Metallic colourway, which was first released way back in 1990. As such, it is built upon a rubber outsole which switches from a blue-tinged translucent heel section to an opaque black midfoot portion and back to another partially see-through piece below the forefoot. Each of the translucent areas are lined with herringbone grip patterns for excellent traction, while the black part has two oblong tabs embossed into its sides and Nike text debossed through its centre. Meanwhile, the toe is also black, and a dark Jumpman can be made out behind the see-through rubber in the forefoot.

A polyurethane midsole in two black layers rests over the outsole, providing comfort alongside grip. It does this via the Air cushioning that can be viewed through the rectangular window in each side of the midsole’s heel. Jagged shark teeth then add a dynamic edge to the structure as they cut back and forth behind the lateral forefoot, with just a single triangular piece on the medial side. Each is decorated white with tiny flecks of black splashed across them, for an intriguing design detail.

The upper returns to an all-black build, its smooth nubuck surface creating an underlayer over the forefoot and around the collar, and overlays on the toe, quarter and heel. White TPU inserts adorn each flank, their latticework of openings allowing the foot to breathe while also bringing a compelling tonal contrast to the sidewalls. Another of these panels appears on the lower part of the tongue, behind the black laces, which thread through the black TPU eyelets set into each quarter panel and the front of the collar. These are firmly secured at the top by a plastic lace lock with a clear outer housing and a Fire Red toggle at its centre.

More radiant Fire Red effects appear on the insole, which has a set of white Nike Air branding printed onto it, and the back of the tongue, whose black surface has a white patch with Fire Red Air Jordan text sewn into it. The rest of the inner is coated in a soft black fabric, and the outer part of the collar protrudes over each ankle to deliver additional protection there, the medial side rising slightly higher than the lateral one. Below this, the centre of the wavy edged heel counter displays a Nike Air logo in pristine white embroidery. Elsewhere, the shoe’s brightest and most eye-catching detail has been reserved for the tongue, whose top coating is made from a Metallic Silver reflective material that beams when under light. Lastly, a Fire Red Jumpman logo has been woven through its centre, delivering a colourful conclusion to this classic Air Jordan 5 sneaker.
